Creative Blogger's Hop

I am way behind on posting my nomination for Creative Bloggers that I received from my Swirly sister, Kim Heard. You can visit her blog here. She is on the wonderful design team for my favorite scrap kit club Swirlydoos. According to Kim, this blog hop tour will allow us to meet new bloggers, get new inspiration and inspire our creativity. This hop is sure to get your mojo going! Here are the four questions I'm answering today.

1. What am I working on?

I am working on the September Swirly Girls Challenge and trying to keep one eye on my new puppy at all times as we work on potty training.

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Hmmm...I am truly a Swirly girl at heart. We have a certain style for sure. Lately I have scrapped a lot of photos of my fur baby, Cody. I do like to mix it up at times and do more grungy work. Here are some of my latest from that style.

3. Why do I create what I do?

I absolutely love to scrap! I have a huge room overlooking the lake with an attached sunroom so it is just a relaxing place to be. I love to turn on my music, drink a glass of wine, and scrap with my fur baby at my feet. I love to scrap pictures of my kids, my fur babies, and my dh. When the papers dictate, I will scrap my niece and nephews or heritage photos. I just love to play with my Swirly kits and create because it makes me happy and helps me remember good times.

4. How does your creating process work?

For me, I start with a challenge from Swirlydoos or a challenge that my sister and I have going on our Facebook page. Then, I start going through my latest Swirlydoos kit for papers and add the flowers and other embellies I want. Then, I decide on mixed media to put down for a base. After that, I start cutting, distressing, and inking the papers. The papers get placed, then flowers and embellies are placed around until I get the look I want. Then, before it all gets glued down, I go to the computer to search and edit the perfect picture or pictures. Believe it or not, I do not start my lo with a picture in mind. The picture is usually the last thing I decide. I like printing my pictures at home so I can adjust the size to suit my lo. After that, I just start putting it all together!

And, now to work on my nominations!

Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog today!

Hello

This one won the June Sketch Challenge.

Some pictures of Cody. We put him up on our wall shelf and he just hung out there like it was no big deal. He was a really laid back pup.

Unfortunately, this dog that we rescued and are keeping for another year until my dd can take him, destroyed this lo. I was soooooo mad. I had to order the papers and flowers so I can redo it now. Of course, I added on some extras for my pain and suffering. Blasted dog. And, blasted husband! He is the one that thought it would be a good idea to leave her out and not safe in her crate. Needless to say, he was in the "dog house" when he got home. He did make a nice steak dinner for me that night.

Sharing another lo that I created while at Swirly camp. I took this picture at Bennett Springs State Park in 2011. I believe it is an old water wheel house. Roger and I had spent the morning trout fishing. Little did we know that I would end up moving near here and working a few miles down the road a year later. At the time, Bennett Springs was a good three hours from home.

I used an old Swirlydoos kit, French Quarter, to complete this lo. I also entered it in a Swirly Girls challenge called, Places not people. The rules included using a title, cardboard, and a picture of a place (no people or pets allowed in the photo).

This lo was chosen as Layout of the Week last Sunday! Thank you for the honor!

Our layout of the week goes to Jan, with her tranquility layout. Jan used the French Quarter kit to perfectly showcase this gorgeous old water wheel house.

Don't you just love all the texture on this layout. That beautiful burlap flower, the embossing on the title and the piece of cardboard create the perfect palette.

Can't you just hear the birds singing and the leaves rustling in the wind when looking at that photo?

“There is a place so pure and true, beyond your deep and restless thoughts you'll find an imaginative longitude for dear shelter, completely lost in time... It's made of love, of magic dreams, where you can be yourself and free... Where roses of white and scarlet bloom...tranquility, waves kissing shore... A place you'll never want to leave, a place for dreamers to believe... So, spread the wings and let your soul fly up high and reach your castle in the sky...” Oksana Rus

Congratulations Jan!

Beautiful Together

This was created for the monthly sketch challenge at Swirlydoos.

I used Perfect Pearls and embossing powder on the chippie. The flowers and butterflies are from the August kit. I added some leaves and other embellies from my stash. The swirly heart was cut with my Cricut. I added some Ferro using a trellis mask. The mesh tape was a gift from Kim while we were at camp. tfl!

Ladies of the Manor

Here's a lo of the Swirly girls at Memories Manor earlier this month.
We had a blast!

Thank you to Maggie for the picture.

Used a sketch from Scrapbook Challenges Sizzling Summer 2014 for this lo of the "Ladies of the Manor." I used Rae's embossing with Perfect Pearls on the chippie we received from camp. What a wonderful technique and a great way to use the Perfect Pearls that I never use anymore! Thank you, Rae!

Road King

Used a sketch from Sketchabilities for this one. Cody loved to go for car rides.
Even when we spelled out r-i-d-e he knew what that meant and ran for the car!

I tore a page from an old hymnal, added a tag from my dd's clothes as well as some brads and leaves from my stash. I used some tape that Kim gave me at camp. It's pretty cool for adding texture. Thanks, Kim!

Spring Walk

I don't even know where to begin. There are so many layouts to post.

Here's a current favorite: my niece and nephew walking the boys.
They always get their puppy fix at my house.

I used a sketch and an old Swirlydoos kit for this one. Really love the Memory Box bubbles die
that I borrowed from Rae.

It's been a looooong time!

Wow! I have been too busy (apparently) to post to my blog. But, I must say that I have been posting to Swirlydoos and an open Facebook page called Jan and Sheri's Scrappy Challenge. Just got back from the fifth annual Swirlydoos Camp. It was held in St. Clair, Michigan in a beautiful 10,000 square foot mansion. It was amazingly beautiful there and the food each day was the best. Look forward to posts of my completed work from camp.

Here's a lo of Memories Manor where we stayed.
