Tutorial Saturday with Jan

Hello, Swirly scrappers!

This Saturday tutorial is a simple one. I am sharing how I put together the SACrafters stickle holder that was the technique add on for Swirlydoos Autumn Bloom.

Here's a few pictures.

**Autumn Bloom** kit reveal with Jan

Hello, happy scrappers!

Just stopping by to share my work with the Swirlydoos "Autumn Bloom" collection.

First, I worked on the sketch layout based on Kim's gorgeous sketch for the month.

Here's a few close-ups. I did touch the edges of the flower petals with some Glimmer Mist.

The garden tools were altered with some brown acrylic paint to match the layout better.

Here's Jax all dressed up for Easter.

Ok, I had to scrap another one of him just to show off his 'do. Yes, he did get his ears and feet colored to match his bowtie.

Just a close-up so you can see the altered chippy. I used Rae's technique with Perfect Pearls and embossing powders.

The metallic silver paper was from my stash.

Here's one for the ATF challenge this month. This picture was taken of me on my birthday while I still had Cody. He was my first Bichon Frise.

I did have to add some flowers from my stash and then tucked in some microbeads.

I kept staring at this piece of paper and wondering what to do with it. The flowers were calling for me to fussy cut them but I kept ignoring them. I finally decided to flip the paper on it's side and then just add more flowers to the bouquet already on the page.

Remember Heather's Facebook live page last month? Well, that was the inspiration for this page. I really liked the vertical strips of torn paper and the twine wrapped around the page so I did it on this layout.

Then, I tried some more torn, layered papers with a little bit of lacing.

More cardboard tucked in for dimension and texture.

Here's the lacing with twine.

My dd about 18 years ago with her grandma.

For this one, I decided to white wash the background so it was more subtle.

Then I added some splats of Glimmer Mist.

How about a few cards with the scraps?

These were made with scraps from last two Swirly kits.

Here's a sneak of the Stickles holder. I have a video tutorial that will be published on Saturday, November 25th. Look for it here on the blog and Swirlydoos Youtube channel.

And, here's another project created with the last tidbits of the kit. Look for the video tutorial next month.

CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration for November

The design team at Swirlydoos was honored with guest designing for CSI again this month.

What a great sketch and color combo! Both were certainly inspiring for me. I hope you give this case file a go. You can check out the major case at CSI and see how past cases have been solved.

Here's the sketch for November.

The scene included pale grey, khaki, white, moss green, and coffee brown surrounded by leaves, branches, stamps, string, flowers and paper clips.

The evidence I found to solve the case included: text on the washi tape, textured cardstock and cardboard, Tim Holtz index clips, string, clothes pin, flowers, leaves, buttons, ribbon, and even a letter text stamp on the patterned paper.

My testimony is documenting something I love to do-scrapbooking. I was inspired by the word, "think."

Supplies:
49 and Market patterned paper
49 and Market flowers and leaves
Tim Holtz washi tape
Tim Holtz index clips
Tim Holtz small talk phrases
Tim Holtz gems
Frank Garcia crown
Darice hemp string
Creative Embellishments chipboard "joy"
Ingvild Bolme chalk ink

Swirlydoos "Sunshine" kit Reveal with Jan

Happy day, all!

Stopping by to share the projects I created with the sweet "Sunshine" August kit of the month from Swirlydoos.

First, let me share the sketch of the month.

I liked the suggestion for deeply distressed edges in the sketch. So, I actually took a lighter and burned the edges of the background paper before mounting it on black card stock.

Here's a close up with the mix of Prima Art Stones that were painted with Prima watercolor.

A peek at the finished sketch layout. I did splatter with some Lindy's in Buccaneer Blue.

Next, I opened the technique kit add on. This month did not disappoint either.

Loved making this cute wall art.

I will share a video tutorial in a few weeks so you can see how I made this.

How about one for the All that Flutters aka ATF challenge?

I busted out the new Cricut Air to cut the hexagons.

Then, I busted out the sewing machine to sew all those suckers on!
I altered the alphas with Ingvild Bohme inks, Prima stamps, Smooch, Heidi Swapp color shine and a black pen. The chippy peeking out from behind the title was cut apart and altered with Prima Patina paste.

And, here's a butterfly kissed with the yellow glitter glue included in the kit this month.

One more...

The chippy was altered with the Prima Patina pastes and some embossing powder. I decided to include some handwritten journaling on this one.

Oh! Check out the bottle cap! I just figured out that you can run the bottle caps through the Big Shot with only one of the thinner plates + the thick metal plate and it will curl the edges of the bottle cap up. Pretty cool effect and easier to attach to the page with less bulk. Maybe this is an old trick for you but I never knew about this until I experimented last week!

Happy scrapping!
