Swirlydoos October kit reveal "Rose Garden" with Jan

Hello! I'm sharing my projects created with Swirlydoos October kit of the month, "Rose Garden." It's another beauty! Love me some Prima!

Typically I do the monthly sketch first and this time I "sort of" did that. Well, I flipped the sketch around sideways. First in one direction and then in the opposite direction to create my first two layouts.

Here's the sketch.

Here's the first layout I created. As you know, I love the Swirlydoos' All that Flutters challenge. Here's my first example for the ATF challenge.

I used a stencil and some Wendy Vecchi embossing paste in white on the background. Then I cut a doily out of white cardstock on my Cricut. The flowers were handmade using a Heartfelt creations die and stamp set, Arianna Blooms. Can you tell this is the sketch turned on it's side?

Here's a few close ups

Next, I turned the sketch one turn in the other direction.

The chippies were sprayed with Heidi Swapp Shine in gold then sprinkled with ultra thick embossing powder in bronze.

 Here's a close-up of the chippies.

Ok, now I would like to share my take on the sketch without turning it.

The leafy vines are another Heartfelt Creations stamp and die set. Everything else is from the October kit of the month.

Now, what about the project kit add-on?

I think it is my all time favorite! Loved it.

I'll be sharing a video tutorial soon on how I created this.

Just loved the plaque and how it turned out.

Now, here's my entry for the SGC this month. The challenge is to scrap what makes you happy. Well, this little squirt makes me laugh daily. He hopped into his toy box so I snapped this picture as I was laughing at him. Note, the saying on the toy box.

The butterflies were painted with the Prima metallics that was included in a past Swirlydoos add-on.

I used my feathers dies to cut feathers from the Prima papers and the black burlap specialty paper.

Just when I thought I was done with the October kit, the papers starting calling for me! So, I created one more page for the ATF challenge.

This one includes more handmade flowers created with a different Heartfelt Creations die and stamp set. I colored white cardstock with the Color Blooms included in the mediums add-on.

October Round Robin at Swirlydoos

The title for this month's Swirlydoos Round Robin is "Don't be a Tool."  The challenge is to use 5 tools to create your layout and paper cutter, glue gun, scissors do not count.

I followed Peggy and she used hexagons! lol! I've been trying to make her love them for over a year now. So, she used them on her layout and I followed suit.

Here's my entry.

Here’s my two boys on a recent hike. I used 5 tools and some past Swirlydoos papers as well as the black burlap from the October kit.
Tools used: Distrezz it all, Spellbinders tool in one, Big shot, McGill flower shaping tools, die punch (for hexagons). For this layout, I made my own flowers using a recent Hearfelt Creations stamp and die. The McGill flower shaping tools helped.

**Tutorial Saturday** with Jan

Hello, Swirly scrappers!

By now I hope you have gotten to scrap with the Swirlydoos September kit of the month, Creamsicle. But, have you done anything with the 12x12 wooden piece included in the main kit? No? Krissy makes you think doesn't she?

Well, she certainly had me thinking. I mean, what the heck! I just shuffled it around on my scrap desk for several weeks. Then, looking through Pinterest I got an idea.

All the red flowers are from the September kit flower add on.
The white flowers were from the Swirlydoos store and the leaves were from a past Swirlydoos kit.

The keys were from my stash.

The rusty stars were a swap meet purchase.

I bought the black handle for less than $1.50 from Lowe's.

I used my Cricut to cut the words and make a stencil out of shelf paper.

I hope you enjoy the tutorial and if you give it a try please share your finished project!

Here's the video tutorial.

Swirlydoos September kit reveal "Creamsicle"

Hello, Swirly Scrappers!

I am excited to share Swirlydoos yummy September kit of the month with you. It is another beauty!
By now I hope you have seen the amazing monthly sketch but if not, here it is.

I decided to turn the sketch 90 degrees and then lift it. Remember you can turn a sketch once, twice, or three times and get a totally different look. I used one long photo rather than 3 smaller square pictures. This is me and my sister just last month getting ready to hike at Bennett Springs State Park.

I used the BoBunny stencils and some white embossing paste to add some texture to the background.

Here's a close up of the flower cluster with a butterfly.

Next, I played more with the BoBunny stencils, embossing paste, and the Artisan Powder in Rosewood. I embossed in white, allowed the paste to dry, and then brushed the powder on top while the stencil was still in place. That's the cool thing about the adhesive stencils. You could mix the powder in with the embossing paste but I was looking for a darker hue.

The flowers were handmade and embellished with the beads included in the main kit then brushed with the metallic watercolors included in the add on. I brushed the Art Stones from my stash with the metallic watercolors, too. Then the background was splattered with some of the same watercolor. The Nuvo Drops were added directly to the page. AWESOME stuff! Better than Perfect Pearls-no points. The Nuvo levels to a perfect pearl shape on your page. Don't be afraid to try it.

If you have not seen the Anatomy of a Layout yet then I will share that with you, too. It was a fun one to create using only the main kit, a stencil, embossing paste, and flower and butterfly punch from my stash. If you follow along, please share your interpretation!

Here's the video tutorial.

Now, here's one I created for the All that Flutters challenge.

Lots of layers with tags, banners, and paper tearing. I loved that wooden frame.

Did you get the watercolor add on?

Well, I was just itching to play with it so I had to play with the canvas next.

I started with a stencil and some embossing paste. Let that dry then sprayed the canvas with a bit of water so the water colors that I wanted to add would spread easily. Then, I just started to add the water colors from the metallic set by Prima. Dried that. Splattered some more watercolors, stamped some random Archival ink in black, added some gold foil rub ons from a past kit and then began adding the flowers atop the BoBunny chipboard door.

The yellow velvet butterflies are from a past Swirlydoos kit and the vellum was also from a past kit. I just used a butterfly punch then cut the vellum butterfly in half and attached each half to the velvet butterfly next to the beaded body.

I LOVE this canvas! It is very shiny IRL.
